In a rain affected day at Southampton, First Semifinal was played between Essex and Hampshire, which Hampshire won by 6 wickets, Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzak top scoring with 44. With showers on and off, I was thinking that we are not going to get any more games. Luckily ground staff worked hard to drain the ground, and heavy cloud cover moved away. So second semifinal was on in which Somerset beat Nottinghamshire by 3 runs in D/L method. Somerset made 182 /5 in 20 overs powerd by big hitting KA Pollard and JC Buttler. Wet conditions made bowling difficult. Notts were going great with David Hussey and Samit Patel scoring at will, Murali Karthik was at the receiving end giving away 28 runs in his 3 overs. Notts reached 111/3 at the end of 12th over. First ball of the next over saw a great catch by Pollard at the boundary , which turned to be a match winning one. Everyone thought Samit Patel's big hit was going over the rope for a six, when tall Pollard timed his jump perfectly to catch it. Rain started again and after 13 overs Noots were 117/4, D/L Par score being 121. With no more play possible , Somerset was declared winners.

Rain stopped after a while and stage was set for the big final. Trescothick winning the toss for Somerset and elected to bat first. They scored 173/6 in 20 overs, Kieswetter scored 71 of 54 balls after a slow, struggling start. Pollard was badly hit by a Dominic Cork bouncer in the last over, and was taken to hospital.

At one stage Hampshire looked like winning comfortably, but they made it so close in the end , and nearly lost it. Hampshire scored 173/5 in 20 overs, and won by virtue of loosing fewer wickets.

Hampshire required 2 runs from the last ball , ( tie without losing a wicket will also make them winners ) Dan Christian facing the final ball, had to call for a runner as he pulled his muscle in the previous run. Z de Bruyn bowled 5 short pitched balls, in which Hampshire batsmen were running for byes in 3 occasions. Wicket keeper Kieswetter missed the stumps every time , and now he decided to come up to the stumps for the final ball. Ball looked straight in real time and struck on the pads of Christian, Somerset boys were disappointed as umpire turned down their very strong appeal. Batsmen took a leg bye and scores were leveled. Replays showed ball was going down and kissing outer side of leg stump, I will say it was a very good decision, you cant give those out.

The funny thing was Christian forgot he has runner, and he himself ran for the legbye. Which means striker with a runner out of his ground and he would have been run out if somerset fielders remove the bail at strikers end. They didn't realized the opportunity, even batsmen were not aware of it as Christian didnt make ant effort to go back to strikers end. May be players not aware of the rule!. Umpires knew exactly what was happening , they were waiting for few seconds. Still Somerset players were not aware of the opportunity, and didn't even threw the ball to wicket keeper. A great chance missed and Hampshire emerged winners of 2010 Friend Provident Trophy. South African Neil McKenzie was adjudged man of the match for his 39 balls 52. Score card

Cross posted at http://crickettvonline.blogspot.com/Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-48119044271508228442010-01-30T11:38:00.000-08:002010-01-30T11:42:42.625-08:00South Africa in India 2010Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh have been ruled out while Karnataka’s new pace sensation Abhimanyu Mithun and Bengal wicketkeeper Wridhiman Saha get their maiden call-up to the Indian squad for the first Test against South Africa beginning Feb 6 in Nagpur.

Dravid, who fractured his jaw after being hit by a lethal Shahadat Hossain bouncer in the second Test against Bangladesh, has been advised three-week rest.

Yuvraj, who was out midway through the Dhaka Test with a ligament injury on his left wrist, has also been rested.

Tamil Nadu batsmen Subramaniam Badrinath and Murali Vijay have benifitted from their absence. The british educated barrister forgot all his past years and was highly reluctant to give up his comforts as the speaker of parliment of world's largest democracy. Or is there any other big offers for him. I got a strong feeling that his dreams are much bigger. It is not a crime t0 dream the pressidential post and congress might have given him some hopes. If communists are going behind power then what about others. It is becoming more and more clear that ideologies good for teaching , not to practise.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-50294717582906001192008-07-11T01:59:00.000-07:002008-07-11T03:30:42.119-07:00Rising Inflation- Market crashed againMarkets promised so much on Friday morning ahead of Infosys results But high inflation data and other factors pulled market down. Sensex was trading 450 points down at 2:30 PM. Crude oil prices at 144 dollars contributed for big sell off. So, with political uncertainity one should expect further downside. It is a good time to accummulate some good shares for long term. Cairns India is a stock for the future. Another stock is Satyam computers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-82696862821564474172008-05-02T06:43:00.000-07:002008-05-02T06:53:44.277-07:00NEW CONTROVERSY ABOUT GANGULYGanguly and Shane warne started yet another controversy which will be in news for coming days. Ganguly clearly showed dissent by asking umpire to refer the decision to third umpire. Actually the catch was taken cleanly but lack of clear videos forced third umpire to give benefit of doubt to batsman. Gangly should have taken fielders word. A player of his experience is not able to win respect from opposition means he has to think about his behaviours seriously. Nobody is worried about sreesanth's charactor but Ganguly is IUndia's most successful captain and a model for many emerging young players. Also Indian players should show more manners in the field as we are the hosts for IPL.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-78179544904134828492008-04-20T20:43:00.000-07:002008-04-20T20:44:31.596-07:00Jadeja for IPL TV COVERAGEAjay Jadeja is struugling as a commentator. His pre match analysis is so poor considering the reputation he had as an analyst in TURNING POINT. In past edition of cricket controversy Jadeja dis agreed with the opinion about Harsha Bhogle that Harsha is famous than some cricketers. Now he Jadeja must have realised that job of commentator need lot of skills. It is not like agreeing or dis agreeing to the anchors in the studio. Anyway I am happy that Sony coverage of IPL is far better than NEOSPORTS coverage of international matches.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-84320721111062059792007-09-23T07:22:00.000-07:002007-09-23T07:25:21.796-07:00the dream is now going to be a reality ....world cup final between INDIA and PAKISTAN.....

All of India and Pakistan is pumped up for this great clash...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-48764119523981016982007-09-09T08:11:00.000-07:002007-09-09T08:29:48.545-07:00twenty20 world cupCricket's undisputed leaders Australia are favourites to win the inaugural Twenty20 world championships starting on Tuesday, but rivals are geared to spring surprises.
The shortest version of the game, marked by innovative strokeplay and a flurry of sixes and boundaries, promises to underline the belief that limited-overs cricket is an unpredictable sport.
Australia may have won three successive World Cup titles, but matches restricted to 20-overs-a-side have given other teams confidence that they are not there just to make up the numbers.

India squad
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthick, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Joginder SharmaUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-49252431901846463092007-06-08T10:56:00.000-07:002007-06-08T11:03:52.990-07:00INDIA SOUTHAFRICA IN IRELANDAllrounder Jacques Kallis will lead a new-look South African squad on a short tour to Ireland this month.

The India-South Africa one-day series will go ahead as scheduled next month after the Indian cricket board wriggled out of a broadcast wrangle on Thursday. The three-match series in Northern Ireland had been thrown into doubt on Wednesday after rights holder Zee Television pulled out of a deal to broadcast matches involving India at neutral venues, citing differences with the board. The series will now be broadcast by Mumbai-based Nimbus Sports, who already hold the rights to all international matches in India until 2010.
The matches in Belfast are part of the BCCI's plan to play 25 one-day internationals at offshore venues over a five-year period, for which Zee had bought the rights for $219 million. The first event was held in September last year when India took on world champions Australia and the West Indies in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7660402976328554938.post-82498876250274835782007-06-08T10:19:00.000-07:002007-06-08T10:52:49.798-07:00CRICKET: AFRO ASIAN CUPWhat's your main opinion of the Afro-Asian series?

Just a money-making effort???
Opportunity for improving inter-and intracontinental relations???
Lacks the so-called "stars" to make it worthwhile???
Exciting variation from the norm???
Pointless tournament in an already bulging international schedule???

POST YOUR VIEWSUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0
